Coach Randy Edsall

Coach Randy Edsall

Show notes

The much-anticipated interview with Coach Randy Edsall took place and was outstanding. From a small town in Glen Rock, PA, Randy was thrust into big time college football at Syracuse. Always a student of the game, he stayed on as a graduate assistant before advancing though different positions over 12 years at the Cuse. Starting off as a quarterback, Randy found his success on the defensive side of the ball where he made a name for himself. We talk about his time at Boston College working for Tom Coughlin, along with moving to Georgia Tech to gain coordinator experience knowing his ultimate goal was to become a head coach. Focus, dedication, motivation and understanding hard work was the only way he knew how to do things. Coach credits Athletic Director Lew Perkins for ultimately bringing him to Connecticut with a plan and vision in place. Lew saw the future of how a major college FBS football program was a game changer. Coach Edsall provides incredible insight on the challenges of recruiting, NIL deals and the transfer portal. A proud father watching his son coach at Stanford and a 5 handicap on the golf course has fulfilled him in retirement. Coach built UConn, which was considered a basketball school from the ground up, won several bowl games, and he is most proud to see the success of his players because it was about preparing them for life, which he took pride in. As he told me, coach never lied to his kids, he always told the truth, which they may not have wanted to hear, but his care was in the best interest of the players. An exceptional interview and I am grateful coach took the time to sit down with us.
