All new Husky Talk with former UConn Womens basketball player Britt Hunter. She talks about her unique journey that led her to UConn and what she has been doing since graduating. Britt was always kind and treated me well. She is one of the smartest guests I've had on, it was a pleasure spending time with her.
Growing up, she was extremely sheltered because her mother worked all the time. She didn't love basketball, but recognized her athleticism and talent was her best chance to attend college on a scholarship.
She admitted being an introvert, having some insecurities and not being interested in partying in high school. She played on the best team in OH IO, I got to learn that yesterday! Taking official visits to schools like Duke, Harvard, Texas and UConn, being ranked the #1 player in the country, she was recruited by everyone.
After a difficult year at Duke, she suffered a major injury which she spent a year recovering from. Between that and her depression, she called UConn on her own and made the decision to transfer.
It was a challanging transition because she was limited and could not play like she wanted to. Britt was known for her tough defense, blocking shots, rebounding, loved doing all the dirty work. She loves her teammates and is close with them to this day
After graduation, she has done a little bit of everything. From coaching at Temple, being a Dean of Students, teaching, she spent a lot of time in education. She also got her Master's degree and MBA.
Britt currently works for Microsoft, and she also does speaking engagements at universities to share her story to athletes. Britt always gives back and does a lot of charity work because she had people who helped, believed in her. She always will pay it forward. We had a wonderful conversation, and I definitely will have her on again in the future. If you are interested in having Britt speak at your school, check out her website at britthunterspeaks.com
