Husky Talk had an outstanding guest in Nedvonne Young. We will do another episode talking about UConn. This was a fascinating story from a former teammate that was captivating. Growing up initially in Florida, then moving to Brooklyn, having to live in different parts of Brooklyn as a child, Nedvonne was dedicated from day one.
Learning to overcome adversity at a young age, working a job when he was 7 years old, he always contributed, starting at a young age and did everything possible to help his family. Having sisters, living with his mother, he was considered the man of the house.
Nedvonne was nervous, but he took that responsivity seriously and developed a strong work ethic. His mother was a phenomenal teacher to him and Nedvonne credits his Entrepreneural spirit coming from his mom. A dynamic athlete, he didn't play sports until 7th grade, from football to swimming, to track, there was nothing he couldn't do.
We talk about religion, faith and God. Nedvonne explains to me about the Holy Spirit, surrendering to Jesus, praying multiple times a day, almost like having conversations with God. I asked him for his take, advice on a few things and he was gracious enough to talk me though certain issues I was having.
At the end we talk business and Nedvonne starting Freshfold Laundry Co in Carrboro, NC which is near Chapel Hill. A high-end Laundry Service that he opened in January. The business is doing well and that is no surprise with Nedvonne as the owner. It is not a laundromat where you go in, wash and dry your clothes yourself. This is an amazing service, clothes are dropped off, they are wash, dried, and folded for you in lightning speed. Go to their website at www.freshfold-laundry.com to see how much they offer from online scheduling, weekly or bi-weekly subscriptions, and more to come.
Nedvonne has a strong portfolio because he invests in areas that have a good chance to make money. Owning Real Estate Properties, looking at businesses from the Baby Boomer era where an owners kids or grandkids aren't planning to take over the business. Nedvonne understands an excellent investment opportunity that could sell for less, that he can get rolling. I was impressed with his vision for the next 5 years and love the goals he has set. This was one of my favorite conversations and I learned a ton from Nedvonne.
